Asia Rift Rivals 2 Notes 7/4 (6:20 AM ET)

Asia Rift Rivals 2 Notes

Thursday June 4

These are quick notes for the second rift rivals slate of the early morning. This is a 2 game slate. The content for the main slate with 4 games are up in a separate post.

6:20 AM ET (2 Games)

EVS vs TES

A lot of how I view this game should depend on the first game EVS plays against DWG. They are heavy underdogs in that game also and if they show any potential for an upset then maybe they have some opportunity to win games in this tournament. I do not think that will happen in this game however. EVS is the 2nd team coming from the VCS form Vietnam, and they are relatively unknown as far as international competition goes. I think they are mostly outmatched at this tournament and most likely won't do too well.

TES are one of the best teams in China and I expect to them to do well in this tournament. They have a very strong jungle/mid duo with Xx and Knight, and their bot lane is no slouch either. I think they should roll over this match very easily, unless they do not take this seriously at all. That can be a potential way that this game gets thrown away and we will have to look out to see if these teams take this event seriously at all. I think TES should be a safe bet, and even if they troll and not take it 100% serious they should win.

As I mentioned before, if this was a perfect world where everyone was trying their hardest to win, there would be almost no doubt that TES would wipe the floor with EVS. I still believe TES to be that size of favorites over EVS, but there is a chance that they troll this game and not take it 100% serious. The whole tone for the event should be set on this first day so we will see if teams are giving it their all. I would still trust TES to win even if they were to pick sub-optimal lineup, but that really depends on how hard they troll.

Pick: TES

Players to target: Xx, Knight, Ben

GRF vs JDG

GRF are one of my favorite teams to cheer for in professional LOL. They play a calculated style with such control and it is very interesting to watch them play this style when it is not the most optimal, and I think that some of their players are just insanely good (Tarzan). This year they have had very good support from their other lanes, namely Sword and Viper. They have both been extremely good in the summer split and I expect them to continue that internationally.

JDG were somewhat lucky to be finalists last split instead of FPX, and I think that they are not as good as most top teams in the LPL. However, they had a rocky start to the split and have been collecting steam as of late with much improved performances recently. I think JDG are still a playoff  caliber team and they should perform decent at this event.

GRF are a top team in the world in my opinion, and probably the best hope Korea has at this event. I think they can stand up to the aggressive style that China plays and they can outsmart the opponents across the map. The games against the best LPL teams are going to be interesting to watch, and it should gauge GRF's overall strength. JDG however are a tier below the top teams in the LPL so I think GRF has the advantage here, but I can see some avenues that JDG can win this game, unlike the previous match on this slate.

Pick: GRF

Players to target:  Tarzan, Viper, Sword
